Achilles

The tragic irony… we believed our teachers and so we learned to accept without question. In part this was because we wanted mentors, guidance and so on, but also it’s because we wanted approval, because we wanted acceptance.

When I was a kid, if I asked my father for something and he said “No” and I complained, he would answer, “You wanted approval, you wanted affirmation, you shouldn’t have asked you should have just did it.” And he was right. It was a valuable lesson.

Our need for approval is our Achilles’ heel. It’s not our fault but it is our world… do we want approval or do we want to do it?
